Compaq 802.11g upgrade for laptop with WiFi?

I have a "built-in" WiFi laptop. When I say "built-in" it actually means that there is a large detachable device on the back of the LCD. Is there a Compaq factory upgrade available for 802.11g? Should I just remove the 802.11b and get a regular pcmcia card?
 
Open up the module and see what is inside. I saw one of those come through the shop, but I never had an opportunity to look at it closely.
