COMPAQ 700 laptop / smoked?

Compaq 700 laptop does not power up.


At first I thought it was a power supply issue. I believe it was working until the battery was drained. When I plug it in it will not boot or power up.

A couple of guys in the company support group took a quick look at it and told me when they smelled the back of it that it smelled smokey.

Do these normally smell 'hot' by the fan? Or did somthing burn up in it?

It's only 15 months old... hate to toss it.



 
Sounds like you ps or battery blew. Then you battery nunber/model number and do a search on there website or yahoo.com. Maybe there was a recall on your model. If not call compaq and tell then the problem. I think its your battery. If worse comes to worse, you could have blown your cpu or mobo, but dont jump to conclusions yet. Do what i said first then post back
 
nothing should ever smell burned in a electrical system. if its only 15 months old, if you bitch and moan enough to compaq, you might just get a warranty repair out of it
