Compaq 6404, a CPU upgrading??

I am seeing many closeouts on compaqs and HP's
Can a person bottom fish for this base unit, and install a faster CPU?
What limits the cpu upgrading?
Bios?

What will XP do upon restart?

Is there a web site that shows what MB is in compaq, HP, eMachines etc?
