Compaq 5240 hard drive question?

Hey guys I have a question. I picked up a 80GB hard drive WD from Sams last night and can not get it to work with my POS system. I need to find out if the Presario 5240 has large hard drive support. I went to the Compaq website to find help but could not find the info or the board #. Any ideas ?

As far as I know, 80GB sized harddrives require the ATA100 IDE interface. Does that Compaq have ATA100, or ATA66?

All ultra 66/100 drives are backward compatible with ultra 33 & dma modes... according to western digital at: Western Digital

Have you tried formatting using WD's Data Life Guard Tools (ie. OVERLAY)?

Yes I tried the the tools that came with the HD. It gives me an error about one of the sectors and will not continue. I tried the item that tested the hard drive and it checked out fine. I am at a loss. I am a nubie at this kind of stuff. Thanks for the help I will check the links.
