Compaq 4640 - which motherboard?

I would appreciate it if you guys can point me in the right direction. I've not been able to find it on my own. The problem is that it won't shut down via the front button and won't detect CPUs faster than 300 Mhz. I see no reason why a Celeron 400 shouldn't work there, so I am looking for a BIOS update.

I've seen that. However, this is still going to be a limited bios by Compaq. I was trying to find who makes these boards for compaq so I can flash the real bios. I don't think this bios will introduce support for faster CPUs, but I will try anyway.

Bah! I don't think the link I provided was the right board. What chipset does the board have? It's the Tomcat i810E is my best guess now sorry it's late and my brain is bonked :moon:

This board has Intel 440ZX, I believe. It's ancient! It has a Rage PRO integrated videocard and only 2 memory slots. Has integrated sound as well and NO agp slot.

How 'bout a :camera: of the MB. Did you try googling the MB 's BIOS string? Here's a link to some known BIOS #'s.

That stupid mobo.. the floppy controller doesn't seem to work! I can't even update the bios without making a boot cd and first saving the bios to the hdd. Man, how much I hate these premade PCs. I'll check out the bios string. Sorry about my not answering - exams.

The main problem with this computer I have are these 2:

1) It doesn't turn off @ the front - only around the back @ the PSU. Kinda annoying.
2) Floppy doesn't work.

Just need a quiet working comp for music @ 1st floor and it doesn't wanna cooperate.
