I just got a Compaq 2100z laptop, and it came with XP home. I want to get rid of XP home and install a fresh new copy of Windows XP (of my own), I wanted to know if it was safe to reformat the HD of the laptop. I have heard that some laptop companies put bios info on the HD. Any resources or tips?

You are totally safe. I would suggest, however, that you download ALL the drivers needed before you reformat the drive.
