BUT!! A new port of the game will be available to all CoH1 players on steam using steamworks for the online component instead of Quazal (what the game has apparently been using since 2006) and as many of the original online features will be kept functioning as possible. :awe:

You seeing this EA? You seeing this Ubisoft? THAT is what a good company does. That is caring about your fanbase

On a sidenote: Quazal was purchased by Ubisoft in 2010 and thats the reason the servers are shutting down now :whiste:

if like me you bought a backup copy on steam, looks like this really will be a minimal effect thing other than having 2 listings in you steam profile, the original and steam server version.

Wow I can't believe this game is 7 years old...if you just saw it for the very first time, you would think it just came out this year, I still enjoy playing skirmishes vs the AI today...game has aged very well for being from 2006.

woo!

The biggest problem with COH was the shitty NAT errors that meant you can't play half the games on the list. Hopefully this means those errors are going away...

Is this why my steam did an auto-update of like 1gig for CoH the other day?

Dunno it does say "April 8th we are hoping to have our “opt-in” version of COH1 available on Steam. Using your key for the original game, you’ll be able to download this full version, make a new account and start playing."

Which implies a new download. Or it might do it automatically, either way i tried to play yesterday and couldn't, kept asking for the CD in the drive so changes may be happening right now.
