Company of Heroes - Won't install, get 1305 error code (file missing/not available)

Per Google, I've found quite a few peeps (mostly from 2006) with the "error code 1305" issue. I've done the "clean boot" method (in MsConfig) and the DMA steps and no go (as mentioned on the Relic site). Also, I've temporarily installed a new DVD burner (Samsung 203 which came out in 2007), tried to install and same problem. Also, I don't think the disk is the issue since it's brand new and I've installed COH on my 2 other PCs with no problem. Prior to installation, I shut down every progy except Systray and Explorer prior to installation.

I've also tried to "copy" the game folders from 1 PC to the problem PC with no luck.

EDITED: I get the 1305 error code right after the installation instructions call for Disk 2 to be inserted. So I'm thinking the error occurs while moving files from Disk 1 onto my hard drive.

I'm running WinXP (all updates) on an nForce2 mobo (ABIT NF7 Version 2). I don't believe it's a video or sound driver issue since the game won't even install. Although I did notice that when the install is starting to fail, I get "sound studdering" with the "background music".

EDITED: In the COH forums, a poster had a problem installing the game and a Relic rep said to install the game on Drive C. I may do a re-installation of WinXP Pro and leave more room on the hard drive for Drive C so I can install COH on Drive C (with the OS).

Any ideas on how to get COH installed on my PC?

Thanks,

Bud

Any chance you can use one of the optical drives from your other 2 pc's which had a successful install? I checked Relic's site and they think it may be optical drive related...

Since I'm running out of ideas, I may try it. I've used a LiteOn DVD-ROM, an NEC RW and a Samsung RW so far.

Darn! I thought I had the issue figured out last night. I went back to "trouble shooting basics" and did a "disk scan" and "defrag" of drive C (OS drive) and the game installation drive ("O"). I put the COH installation disk in (disk 1) and it loaded and all of a sudden it "skipped" calling for disk 2 (the disk I get installation lockup with) and called for disk 3, 4, 5, and finally 6. Then, when I went to install all the offical patches, I got a message saying game files were missing.

I uninstalled the game and deleted the game file on drive "C" (under documents and settings, etc.) and proceeded to reinstall the game. I got the same problem (error code 1305 and the same message "file couldn't be located, isn't available".

This is starting to really peve me off!

Anyone else got any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bud

COH still won't install. I've tried installing the game using a DVD drive on another PC (and COH did install fine using the DVD drive on this machine) via my LAN and still the same issue.

Also, "Windows Installer" version 3.1 is currently installed.

The only thing I haven't tried is installing the game on the "C drive" (which is the drive with the OS and the "default" location suggested during the game installation process) and I haven't done this cause I only have 2GBs of free space on this drive.

I've also tried "naming" the installation folder the same as the "default" tree (Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes) which COH defaults to and still no go.

I've also tried updating WinRar to the newest "freeware" version thinking the compressed file on the installation disk was having decompression issues.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

* take cover!! rambling answer incoming!! lol*

I've had a problem like this when I tried to patch and fixed it (can't remember where I saw the solution). I know the problem is different BUT the solution might help.

When you get the error, it might name a filename it stops on, if it does, copy that file (it can be quite large, 600-800mb) from the DVD, to the C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Archives directory.

Of course, it won't hurt to copy the entire set of files from the CD/DVD
Copy the files from the CD to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Archives
(not sure exactly where they are on the DVD, but it'll have the same filename beginning, like WW2Sound). You'll have to trim the filenames after you copy them to match below, since they'll have lots of characters on the end:

Here's what mine looks like:

Once you do that, try to run the install again! I know you said you had problems copying files, but I wasn't sure if you could copy the files above..)

Sorry for the hurried answer, but I hope it helps!

I was just about to pull the trigger and buy a DVD version of COH but thought I'd try to install the game 1 last time. The last time was the magic bullet:)

When I got the error code this time with disc 1 in DVD drive No. 1, I inserted Disc 2 into DVD drive No.2 (still leaving Disc 1 in DVD drive No. 1), and the install worked. The only oddity was the install process asked for disc 2 to be installed a second time so I just hit "okay" and the install proceeded to ask for discs 3 through 6.

Also, for anyone looking to buy COH and COH-OF, GoGamer.com has the soon-to-be-released "gold" version (which includes both games in DVD format) for ~$29 (plus shipping). The estimated shipping date is 3-5-08.
