Company of Heroes and Steam

I'm snowed in today. I know the min specs require several gigs; does Steam compress the files for download?

it's probably biiiiiiiig, I'm downloaded the patch right now and it's almost 2 gigs, felt like I'm downloading the damn game. Your DL should be closer to 4, not sure about compression but the DVD is like 4'ish gigs, not sure if Steam can Achieve some uber compression. Let us know I'm interested.

It's pretty big...I downloaded it pre-patch (the huge 2GB one) and it was a little under 5GB.

I don't think they compress anything at all... you just install all of the files that are on the disc directly to your hdd over a server. Whatever the game takes up when it's fully installed is how much it'll be over steam.

a lot of stuff is already compressed when you buy it that's why, I'm sure if the game can be compressed Steam will do it, that would save them money on bandwidth so there's no reason not to. A lot of games I've bought expand quite a bit when I install, like a 1 cd game installs to 1.2 gigs or something.

COH is pretty fun but it's damn hard compared to most RTS games.

So even if I bought a physical copy, I'd still have to spend a day downloading the patch. Doesn't really save that much time then. I'll go for it

I like a challenge

I played the demo, and even on normal I had trouble. Gotta love the squad AI though. Units automatically taking cover FTW!

You could check D2D, they show the download size on their site.

thats one thing i really wish STEAM would add, download size.

Says 3.5 GB on D2D

So far, I've got 3% at ~65 KB/s at 40 minutes. So I'm looking at about 22 hours of downloading, which ends up being about 5.2 GB . Sounds about right.

Woot. Download should finish within the hour. If it's anything like the Demo (should be better) this is gonna be awesome. :thumbsup:
