Company of Heroes $32 @gogamer

i gave it a try a few days ago - almost the same as 7-year-old Age Of Empire
if you haven't tried AOE - you'll have fun, otherwise 'move along, there is nothing to see here'

AOE??? what are you smoking? about the only thing in common between the two is that they're RTS's

this is (at the moment- in my opinion) the PINNACLE of action-RTS gaming.

if you have a nice system you'll get a screenfull of eye/ear candy.

i just ordered my collector's edition from fleabay for 45 shipped.

if you enjoyed codename panzers you'll be in hog heaven with this.

I'm a big fan of AOE but this adds another level to RTS. I'm also a big fan of War Hammer 40k Dawn of War and was a little skeptical on picking it up originally because I was afraid it was going to be a Dawn of War skinned with WWII models. I can safely say this is not and I would highly recommend it.
One of the big differences I noticed was tactics play a big role in this game. Simply sending a mob via the shortest path to the enemy will not work in this game, compared to a vast majority or RTS games out there.
However if you are not an RTS fan it would be best to try the demo before purchasing.

This game takes about 12 minutes to load a single level on my system. It's so worth waiting for, though.

Good deal.

it really is a beautiful game, i especially love some of the commentary the troops make when in action 🙂 "...'scuse me, i'm a little F'ing busy right now!" 🙂

and yeah, Dawn of War 40k is also beautiful, can't wait for the expansion to it, although i'd love the expansion to this game even more. one of the few rts where you want to uncover every square inch of the map, just so you can blow everything away 🙂

Can someone give some details as far as the scope of the game? Gameplay? What makes it stand out?

Thx, Trey

Umm did you play the right game? This is the best RTS game I've played in 5 years. As most reviews posted indicate, CoH has reset the bar for all RTSs to follow in terms of gameplay, graphics and sound.

I highly recommend the game to anyone that even has a passing interest in RTS games or WWII.

The retail, unpatched version has no support for SLI whatsoever, so much so that on my rig, which can handle Oblivion at 1920x1200 max at about 30fps, I was only getting 3-8fps.

The patch improved performance up to the point that it's about the same as a single card.

However... on high end systems, a lot of people, (myself included) are having severe issues with system lockups. The solution on their support message boards has been to underclock your memory to get it to run... I can't get a straight response from them as to whether or not they're really working on the issue.

The game seems great in the 10 minute sessions I'm able to get in before it hangs...

Download the demo, it's the retail version with multiple player and a number of the maps disabled.

Very fast-paced, mirco-management is a must and the computer AI is really really tough. When you think you've won, the computer AI sends in a bunch of armor and whoops your arse.

It looks like it's dead now. It was one of their 48 hour deals, but lasted longer that 2 days.

Mine still hasn't shipped yet (ordered on Friday).

Great Game, runs perfectly on my 1900xtx at 1920 resolution. Very tactical. You can actually hold a ground by placing units correctly. Gotta try!

I ordered Friday, got shipping notice early Saturday morning.

This game is challenging, which is great. It's a welcoming change, since I find many RTS games lately too easy.

Agreed, this is the best RTS I've played since Ground Control II, by a WIDE margin.
