The company I work for (I won't say MY company) is having problems with their HR database of choice. It has moronic, basic little problems, like the search feature being inconsistent, etc. They're "working on" fixing these.

So they sent out a test survey today to determine the level of functionality of the database. Somehow I doubt this will help much. See below for the exhange of emails between the HRIS Analyst and myself.

To: HRIS Analyst
Subject: Simple problem with Alexus survey

2. What version of Microsoft Windows do you see when you log on?
See Example 1 Below
0 Windows 95
0 Windows 97
0 Windows 2000
0 Other

There is no Windows 97. ;-)

Her answer:
To: Me
Subject: RE: Simple problem with Alexus survey

See highlighted option below ;-)

No, I mean, there's no such thing as Windows 97. There's a Windows 98 and Office 97 but Windows 97 doesn't exist. =)

To top it off, her final answer:
To: Me
Subject: RE: Simple problem with Alexus survey

Oh, gottcha... I bet you will be the only one that catches that....

Is this "DUH!" sensation what geeks feel like talking to people like me most of the time? I thought this exchange was hysterical.

Wow, that's kinda ironic... how much do you suppose a person like that is making in the company?

If you release the name of the company, I'm sure there will be tons of new applicants hoping to replace the IT fellas there... ;)

Meh, most folks know I work for T-Mobile We use an online applicant tracking system called Alexus though, and THEY'RE the morons responsible. The answer from the T-Mobile HRIS Analyst was just a bonus.

My first thought was that "Windows 97" was a simple typo where she meant to hit the "8" key and hit the "7" key instead. But that reply of hers was just, well, is "patheti-sad" a word?

I used to get people saying they had Windows 97 and Office 98.

Goes right along with their "Optiquest" PC.

I have things like this every day from my users. I had one user complain that their mouse only rolled 40% of the time. 40%!!! WTF DO YOU GET 40% FROM???

Turned out their rollers in their mouse where caked with mouse plaque that was just disgusting. It was by far the worst I've ever seen, but it's the 40% that gets me.

Then, you gotta love when they say "The network/internet is down!" I always make a point to ask them to explain how the entire internet can be down worldwide at that very moment. Maybe I'm an ass. ;):D

Meh...I say "the internet is down" all the time, and I know the difference. It's just faster to say it that way.

She doesn't sound like "an IT person", but rather, some kind of administrative type person. The sad thing is that she probably does make decent money even though she's more or less useless to the company she works for.

NERD ALERT! ;)

I would have replied that I am a supporter of open source software and have OpenWindows running on my computer, which is the equivalent of OS 9 but with "hypertransit" technology added.
