Company benefits: "Legal services" option.

Part of my employer's benefits include optional legal services, for $16.60/month ($199/yr) out of my pay. It pays for all attorney fees 100% for covered services under this plan, and 25% off for the ones not under their plan. Here is more info about what is 100% covered and what isn't.

Do you think it's worth it? I'm probably going to do it b/c one speeding ticket will cost you $200+ just to be represented in court to try and knock points off.

"Advice, counseling, and courtroom representation are included in your coverage."

I would do it.
But, then again, they never did find the bodies...

I would think your line of work would be a factor in deciding.
My line of work is a GIS Programmer. I basically sit behind a desk all day, post on AT, do work. I do like to drive fast, however (around 15-20 over on major highways, 5-10 over on backroads). Hence the name Speed Demon. 🙂

This is a scam. It's an offshoot of "PrePaid Legal Services"...do a google search on that term with the word scam and you'll see what I mean...the "attorneys" who participate won't ever call you back, let alone
spend ANY time on your case.....

Actually, my company is a subsidiary of a company (AMSEC) that is jointly owned SAIC and Northrop Grumman Newport News (I have SAIC stock options). So um, I highly doubt this is a scam.

Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. This is NOT a "prepaid" service, but a legal insurance, much like medical. I have one at work and it has been godsent, saved me a bunch of money over the years.

Did your company purchase a GIS or create their own? Just curious.

We use ESRI software (ArcGIS: ArcMap, ArcIMS, ArcView, etc) as the base, and modify it for our clients into stand alone apps.

Can you ask anybody else at work who has made use of the service?
Well, we were just bought out and the new benefits don't take place till Jan 1st... I suppose I could email some employees of the parent company and inquire.

Let us know what you find out. We have this option too and passed on it, more out of it being something new to both of us (like your situation) than anything else (there was no real good info, to boot).
