I've been working as a temporary Server Admin since February with a good idea that I'd be made full time here... Anyhow, I interviewed and got the full time position and found out what my benefits package includes! I'm totally pumped. I just had to spec out a laptop...I picked out a 2Ghz Dell Latitude with 512RAM, 8x DVD, Docking Station, Extra Battery, Leather Case....about $2800 and they're gonna pay for it. It won't be mine, but I get to play with it! I also found out that I'll be getting 2 vacation days and 1 sick/personal day per month...that's like 5 weeks a year! Plus I'm gonna get free tuition for the time I work here....I'll be able to get my PHD and force people to address me as "DOCTOR". :D They also support retirement plans here which is very rare these days unless the company's been around for years...Most of my friends all have to pay into the state plan and don't get an option through their employers to have those extended retirement options.

I'm so glad I left industry for government work. Perks like those and unlimited job security mean a lot more to me than more pay. Anyone else made a decision to take less pay over more benefits?

I had free drinks at my last job, foozball tables in the break room, flexible hours, and could wear jeans and TShirts every day if I wanted

This one has a very nice salary, can wear jeans every day, medical, dental, vision, 401k, 2 weeks vacation, paid holidays, plus I get taken out to a nice restaurant monthly

plus did I mention nice salary, gained about 15k plus benefits, by losing the foozball table, tshirts.

I would rather have the money and good benefits vs, less money and great benefits.

I work 10 hours a day, little benefits, pay an extreme amount for meager health insurance, don't even get holidays off, have to address the boss as "master....or your majesty", work on mostly 486/Pentium1 computers w/15 inch monitors, and have to wear a pink shirt to work everyday.

I you made more money, you could buy everything yourself. Also, you'd have that extra money coming in *every* month, not just a single one-time benefit like a new lappie.

I'll take higher pay over "perks" and decide whether or not I want to spend my money on said items. My last company offered to pay my school, and give me a bonus; however, it was still 25% less than what I am making now.

I got my laptop just about a year ago, paid $1k more than you, and it's 1ghz. Damn Moore's law...

[edit]I didn't mean to crap all over your enthusiasm; so, congrats!![/edit]

I'm sorta pumped though cause I have no degree and I've increased my pay by 50% in the last 7 months. I'm 22 and doing alright. I figure I'll stay here until I get my master's and then go from there.
