While it was nice of them to do so, I wonder what led you to believe that they would help in the first place? This wasn't a matter of poor manufacturing.

Normally for $100 they will replace any and all damage to one of their rods. They thought it was a cool enough story they did it for free instead.

amazon- no, because they don't list their phone number.

If you don't want to do online chat, you can give them your phone number and they will call you. This is actually a lot better than having a phone # you call, a phone tree, and then a wait on hold. Amazon has the best CS of any online store, period.

T-Mobile
BH Photovideo
Amazon (Usually - the new MP3 Downloader is anything but "friendly")
Cableone - Customer Service is awesome... Sales slacks off like no one's business
NewEgg
CostCo
Fred Meyer
Dish Network
AMD

With the exception of my DSL line, I try and use this list for any purchases and services I make.

madgenius.com
Amazon, newegg, Logitech, Dell (if you get their completecare warranty), and Microcenter.

Almost very business/small business I deal with for madgenius.com kicks ass, or I wouldn't be doing business with them.

RMA services ... EVGA, XFX, Corsair, and Crucial.

Never been disappointed at Trader Joe's or Nordstrom.

I'm a huge Costco fanboy but their policies are great rather than their customer service. Workers there have pissed me off plenty of times and they are not as friendly as Joe's or Nordstrom.

US Cellular: I've never had more than the opening message wait to talk to customer service, and the customer service people are able to adjust the level of detail they use to fit everyone. As in: they can recognize I'm not inept with a phone, and talk to me as such. But they also talk to my grandmother in a way she can understand clearly what to do.

And the people in the store (at least the one in my hometown) are great. When I was looking for a phone they didn't try to push anything, just answered my questions in a non-biased manner. They didn't push any of their crap on me either.

In a related field: The Signal (they do phone insurance). When my phone died last week, I called them up at about 4:00 and they shipped me my new phone, overnight, free. They didn't play games with me about coverage. They even suggested I try getting my phone replaced under warranty if possible (it wasn't...). Great company so far (we'll see how the returning my dead phone thing goes).

American Express

Yep - amazing customer service

chase- even bigger are you kidding? Chase never had good CS

How are you using them? I have their Sapphire card and their customer service has been excellent. They matched a signup promotion for me 3 months after I signed up. They answer emails in about 2 minutes (1-2 hours actually - and not just the automated 'we got your email' kind - actual answers)
I get to talk to a person with superb english skills about 20 seconds after calling them and without some sort of hidden prompt/trick
That person is actually knowledgable and can help me (unlike my Citi card)
They also waived forgein transactions fees for me when I went to Ireland

Best? Dell when you are calling for your business.

Had excellent experience with their business side as well
Logitech also very good
Bose - laugh all you want but I have had great results with them (and no - I did not pay retail price)
Saturday audio

Horrible:
Citi Card
Midwest Bank
American Freight
Pulte
