Companies which are not Google, Microsoft, Oracle or Netapp, don't you think they prefer to hire the not so accomplished job candidates? For example companies where majority of the people are paper pushers and don't need to be thinking out of the box or solving complicated problems, wont they just look over the 4.0 GPA, 800 GMAT, class president type job candidate? They probably want the family man who is happy with the 4% raise every year and the 2 week vacation. They might be scared of the over accomplished candidate who will jump to a new job as soon as he finds one.

Just wondering.

Nobody wants to hire losers. While a 4.00 GPA requirement is ridiculous if applied as a blanket screen for incoming candidates with no experience in the industry, no one wants to hire a dropout or a frat boy who majored in underwater basket weaving.

Bleeding edge technology or not, companies are looking for good workers. A GPA criteria gives them a filter to narrow down the choices. If you get a face-to-face interview, your skills and presentation will play a far greater role than your grades.

Companies don't get to 100th place because they aren't trying hard. Truth is they get to 100th place by striving for 1st place. It's dog eat dog.
