compact wireless-g install help !please

i have a ibm thinkpad t23 laptop and want to go wireless on it.
i have bought a compact wireless-g adaptor,and a compact wireless-g broadband router
model wrt54gc model wusb54gc -bp
i use sbc dsl high speed internet ,i connect everything up and still get no connection.any ideas?
the message reads found adaptor but no internet connect.
