Compact Flash Memory Speed Difference: Ultra II vs. REgular. Is it that much faster?

I just got a Canon S1 IS camera and it can record 60minutes of DV quality video or more depending on card size. at 30FPS MAX.

My question to you is: Does it matter on the camera memory?

Right now, they have a SAndisk 1GB card for roughly $150 as opposed to $270 for the 1GB ULTRA II..

The Sandisk 1GB ultra II can write 9 megabytes (MB) per second and a read speed of 10 MB per second...

Any feedbakc is appreciated.

Depends on the camera. If the camera can utilize higher performance CF, then you might notice a difference.

i've been reading powershot.com to see if the camera does utilize faster CF cards, but knowing Canon, they didn't publish it.

You might want to look around to see if there are some updated benchmarks for CF cards. SanDisk doesn't have a particularly good reputation for speed, and tend to get called "ScamDisk" in other places.

You might want to have a look at CF cards from Transcend and Kingston.

YES.

I love my 256mb UltraII!

Regular 4x flash cards are worse than molasses in an Alaskan winter.

Just think of it this way. What would you chose, a 4x burner or a 60x burner? It's the same thing. 1X = 150kb/sec.

I bought and compared a Sandisk 128MB CF card against a Lexar 12x 128MB on my old Canon A300. The Lexar 12x was noticeably faster - a good second or two. That's all I can really contribute. 😛

SanDisk Ultra II are very good cards. 512MB card can be had for about $80 after rebate @ Amazon.com.

I have a few Transcend cards, which I use in a DRebel. Very good cards also.

I use a Crucial 512 in my Canon G5 and have often wondered if I should dump it for a faster CF card. Will it make a real difference?
Honestly I dont use the G5 for sports shots, the shutter speed seems to slow for that type of thing most of the time.
