this comp is pretty old to start...but i wanted to revamp it and get another system running. i have a dfi lanparty nf4 ultra-d opteron 148, gig, 7800gt, antec 500w. Just recently it stopped booting up, i mean completely, no fan spin, hard drive spin, nothing. I suspected it was the power supply but the mobo indicates it is getting power...i tried everything even reset bio and switched out the battery on the mobo. i could really use some help...could the board be dead? if its dead why is it lighting up? this is a sad day =[

edit: got it to turn on for a bit but when i restarted it it didnt work all four of the red lights were on..whatever that means

looking at the manual, it looks like those 4 red lights should come on in sequence when you boot the system: no lights -> 1 light -> 2 lights -> 3 lights -> 4 lights

they mean 0: system boot up, 1: VGA detected, 2: DRAM detected, 3: CPU detected, 4: system start-up

When you try and boot the system are there any beeps?
There are two kinds of beep codes in the BIOS. One code indicates
that a video error has occured and the BIOS cannot initialize the
video screen to display any additional information. This beep code
consists of a single long beep followed by three short beeps. The
other code indicates that a DRAM error has occured. This beep
code consists of a single long beep.

Also, you might try resetting the CMOS if you haven't already done so:
To load the default values stored in the ROM BIOS, please follow
the steps below.
1. Power-off the system.
2. Set JP2 pins 2 and 3 to On. Wait for a few seconds and set JP2
back to its default setting, pins 1 and 2 On.
3. Now power-on the system.

It is not uncommon for a motherboard to be bad yet the light will light up. Check out what Gary said.

i was gonna test it with a new psu today. it beeps once when it starts but its only one small little beep. i reset the CMOS last night but nothing. i will look on the board for bad caps as well today and i know its not the video because i tested the video in this computer unfortunatly i cant test the ram or cpu anywhere.
