comp won't stay on for more than 5 seconds

so earlier today i was surfing the web and my computer decides to randomly turn off. i'm thinking okay, no big deal, i'll just turn it back on again. anyway, i go to turn my computer on again and all the lights come on, but about 5 seconds later it shuts off again. if i try to turn it back on, nothing happens. i tried messing with the power supply, i unplugged it and then plugged it back on and the computer lights came on, but the computer shut off again. also tried to switch power supplies but that didn't work either. is this a motherboard problem, or is it something else?

Can you post the computer's specs, and that will help get started here 🙂

Also a little background would be helpful ... like how long have you had the PC running without trouble.

Fans, heatsinks and accumulated dust are a good starting point.

Agree. If you let it cool down for several hours and the problem disappear, it must be the heat issue.
