my comp went down one day and now it doesn't post, i get no display.

swapped mobo, no help.
swapped cpu, no help.
suspended mobo without touching any metal, no help.

no vid no mem = beeps
no vid = no beeps, which are expected (3 short)

thoughts? ps? it is a nice corsair hx520. trying to avoid buying more parts at the moment, seems like ps is my last and only hope tho no?

have you tried just 1 stick of RAM, or just no RAM, if not do that first and pay attention to the beep code. Also try each stick of RAM to make sure it's not a bad stick? what motherboard and do you know what BIOS? you could always try to find out what the beep codes mean, as it vary's a little between BIOS. Checkout something like http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm . aside from that I would have to agree that it sounds like a faulty psu.

it's an asus p5k-e. when i take out the ram and vid i get the no ram beeps. when i put in the ram and take out only the vid i get nothing. there is no entry for no beep codes, that's why i thought something was wrong with the mobo. was also told bad cpu could do that. guess i'm ordering a power supply now, sigh!

Sounds like the ram you're using is bad. Can you get some sticks from someone to try? Taking out the sticks will cause most boards not to post, so the only way to troubleshoot it is to actually have another stick of RAM to try in the machine.

I would agree with heymrdj and try to replace the RAM or try one stick at a time , normally it's only one stick that goes bad.

That is unless it boots normal without the video card in and you just can't tell because you can't see anything, which would explain the no beeps. If that is the case I would say replace the psu and if it's still not working then the video card.

i got 2 crucial ballistix sticks.

with both sticks in i get results on screen;
initializing usb controlers .. done
2048 mb.

with 1 ballistix and 1 gskill (either one) i see things on screen, but the initializing usb controllers part doesn't get to done. also with a gskill or both ballistix i get the message 'ddr2-800 in single-channel mode'

with both ballistix and 2048mb ok the comp does not proceed to do anything further though. num lock stops working on keyboard.

i have a new cpu, this is the new cpu in both old and new mobo behavior. haven't tried the old cpu yet, since i assume the entire original problem was with the mobo now. any advice other than retry old cpu, which is my next step i suppose... that's a pain though and i'd like to assume the new chip is fine...!
