I have an Intel LGA Socket 775 3.4 GHZ and an abit motherboard to go with it. When i press the power button it turns on for a few seconds and immediately shuts off. I tried multiple power supplys, and am only using bare requirments of a video card, cpu/heatsink, and ram. Any idea whats wrong? I believe I installed the processor correctly, and the heatsink is plugged in. It turns on for a few sec. Some times the monitor turns on and shows post screen for a bit, sometimes nothing.

I would first re-instal the cpu, memory and vid card. Reset BIOS. If that doesn't work, then possible cause could be: Bad mem (if you have extras, try those) , Bad CPU (again, try a diff one), or your MOBO might be faulty. I would rule out the power supply (unless your over taxing it with multiple HD's). I do know that HD's pull a lot of juice when spinning up. You don't state whether you have DDR or DDR2, so if you are using the 925x chipset you probably don't have an extra set of mem modules handy. Sorry. I'm assuming you have yet to get to the BIOS screen?

i reseated that mofo like 4 times, i heard 4 clicks for 4 corners, i picked up the mobo and saw the pins all the way through the holes in the back to secure it.... I sent the mobo and cpu back to newegg for replacments.

i doubt its heat, it usually stops at the same time, and its EARLY usually it lasts atleast 10 seconds, and something appears on the screen, regardless of how many seconds it stays on, something atleast shows up on the screen. But since nothing is showing up on the screen, it leads me to believe the mobo is at fault. I have DDR, and have tried 3 different memory modules in different slots.
