Comp to Comp Transfer

let's say i have a laptop without a cd-rom drive, and i wanna transfer some large files from my comp to the laptop. how do i connect the laptop to the comp to send the files over?

Network cards in each with a cross-over cable.

You can use a network cable if you have a network plug on both computers or you could buy a cable to hook them together with using the printer ports.
