I'm sure many will recommend anything by klipsch. They've got a variety of 2.1, 4.1, and 5.1 systems (do them have both 4.1 and 5.1? I haven't ever really looked at them closely, out of my price range). I've got boston acoustics BA4800 4.1 set, they rock. Good sound, loud if wanted, good bass, all around a nice set for under 150.

you can probably find a really nice pair of Midiland S4 8200's for around $200, I got mine for $220.. also, then you'll want to get another cable for them, depending on your soundcard

if you have a sound card w/ 4 channel analog out (I.E., front and rear) then get the Intellicable from Midiland

if you have a sound card w/ 6 channel analog out (I.E., front, rear, and center/lfe, like the Philips Acoustic Edge) then get the custom cable from iec.net as it allows you to plug in a seperate RCA cable for each channel, then just go buy 3 mini to rca cables from radio shack or even WalMart

This cable is needed if you want to get all of the speakers to sound whenever you're listening to something not AC3 related, like playing games, mp3's, etc... whenever you watching a DVD or something like that, use the decoder box with S/PDIF simply because digital sounds so much nicer :D

GREAT speaker set up, make sure you get one of these two cables (again, it depends on your soundcard, as to which one you should get) or you may be disappointed from only getting sound out of two speakers.

also I forgot to mention.. klipsch are nice if you like really bass-ey loud sound, not really as clear as the Midilands, for example. These Midiland speakers sound very rich and clear, and the bass is also very powerful... also Klipsch speakers cost at least 2x more than Midiland for comparables

The Crossfire Scirocco's use real, quality components, namely drivers by Audax (a french company that's been around for a LONG time).
Very nice speakers....though more than $250 (sorry I dont have any linkage)

uhm, from this statement it really sounds like you need to invest in a better sound card... SBLive! for like $40 online, or I got a Philips AE for $50 shipped from these forums, you may have luck too...
