Comp Science or CIS???

Alright tomorrow is a big day when I pick my courses and decide on my major in college.I will go to a local community college for 2 years and than transfer to University of Miami or FSU.I like IT stuff like networking and other things like setting up servers or computer hardware related stuff but I am not sure what to do.I think Comp Science would be a better choice because from what I heard lots of compaines want a network admin that can program.Only downside to that is I have never programmed nor have I shown interest into that field maily since I never have looked into it.I guess CIS is what most people call MIS.So I was wondering what input any of you guys can give me on this subject.

If you're not through your two years of community college, don't rush too much because you've got 2 more years to pick one or the other. I'm going with CS because even though I dont' like programming I think its more versatile

Networking does not mean mean setting up servers. Networking is more on the internet side and not in actual setting up servers and stuff.

I also think CS is much more useful and programming skills aren't bad to know.I am go towards the Comp Science side.I really am not into BA stuff so computers is what I plan to do.I have looked at other options but I can't see myself doing anything other than computer work.I also find CE an option too just too many fields I like and I don't want to blow useful time and spend an extra year or two of college.

yeah i am too trying to decide my major, i am current a CS major but is considering CIS.

From what i heard, CS is more on the programing and computer THEORIES, which i don't have much interest in.

Someone also told me that CIS is a more practical approach on everyday uses on the computer.

Can someone confirm if i am right about these two majors? if am wrong, can u please explain briefly in SIMPLE ENGLISH, what these two majors are? Thanks.

I deal with both types of people. In all honesty, if your MIS/CIS program is any good, I would HIGHLY recommend that one. Generally, it will give you a better idea of how computers are used in actual organizations. You can still take a highly technical focus, but you will be way ahead of the game in terms of actually creating/managing usable systems. You can still take ICS courses.

Of course, if your school has a foofy MIS major than this advice means little

btw, most MIS maors I know doA LOT of advanced programming, not just scripting/web design stuff. That will really depend on you school's program and the individual...

If those are the topics that are actually taught in class (talk to undergerads, not just GRAD students), then it looks good!
