Comp restarts itself alot... why?

For the past few days my comp would restart itself usually after playing half life. This morning when I woke up it started restarting every few minutes, usually when I would click on something like a program. Whast the deal?

Tbird 1.4
MSI KT333
512DDR PC2100
Radeon 8500LE 128meg
TDK 48x burner
Sound Blaster Live!
Maxtor 40gig 7200 RPM

The last time my system did that to me, I changed the power supply to a better and more powerful one. That stopped all the troubles it gave me. Not sure whether that'll work for your case or not.

I had that happen alot while playing Allied Assult. Also a MSI mobo, but Intel CPU.
I think in my case it was Mobo.
Mobo gets my vote.

Kk

PS you should make this a poll. 🙂

yeah usually when i see this problem it turns out to be a power supply. not 100% of the time, but a fairly good percentage.

I just figured out it is the RAM. I have 2 sticks of Crucial 256 DDR PC2100. When I remove the one I know is good the computer has serious problems like the monitor wont turn on or it restarts when entering windows. When I have just the good piece in like I do now I have not had any problems.

The funny thing is this is the second time in the last 3 months my ram has gone bad. I got a exchange on the piece that went bad before and placed it in the same slot, now that RAM has gone bad, while the ram I had in another slot has been good all this time. Why does one of my slots destory the RAM?

MSI KT333 ARU
Windows XP

I've had 3 sticks of Crucial go bad in the last year. A friend of mine just RMA'd a stick. Dunno what's up with that......

Probably because it's unstable.

Probably not....

Same here... had a 300W powering a gigantic system full of crap.. got an Antec 400W and it never happened again.

might be the PSU.

My guess is that you just had a streak of bad luck. It can happen to anyone. That's why people should never ignore a good warranty.

What is the warranty on Crucial just out of curiosity? Also, yeah, if it hadn't been your ram I would have voted PSU.

If you can, check the current supply on the 12V rail of your power supply. Chances are it's below 10A. A power supply should have at least 15A on the 12V line for an average powered system.
