Comp Lag when Reading/Writing With CD/DVD Drive.

When the drive reads a cd/dvd, it takes up 90%+ CPU Usage.
When the drive writes a cd/dvd, it also takes up 90%+ CPU Usage
well... with both, the bounce up and down, fluctuating.
I use Nero to burn, so the Buffer Level also fluctuates.

My settings are:
fresh install of Win 2000
no background programs are running
upgraded firmware on the Lite On SOHW1663
AMD Barton 3000+ with 2x 512 DDR dual channel

i dont know what other information you might
need. but heres the thing... everything is smooth
when i was on XP. i jumped back to win2k because
of some other performance problem i had with XP.
Im trying out dual boot to see if that will give me best
of both. But first I would like to know if theres a fix for
my problem in win2k.

Can you try to enable DMA

Go into control panel/devices
go into the cdrom applet, properties, look for the box to tick with 'enable DMA'

coulnt go to "enable DMA"
couldnt find it. could it be
my bios? let me know how to set that up.
ive already dual booted my system.
but i would still like to know a solution to this.
i enabled DMA through powerdvd. but it said
failed to enable.

edit:
alright, i found out how to enable dma.
and it works fine. thanks montag.
