Comp Geeks Info about their $99 Combo...

I purchased the Comp Geeks Bare Bones Combo for $99 thinking that it would be great for my dad for surfing and the like. To my retardness I never really put that much though into thinking that it would support Celeron II's. So I purchased a Celermine 667 with a Iwill Slocket and guess what...no boot.
This is the Combo!
So unless I am doing something wrong (please correct me if I am wrong), the KP001 from Kinpo (motherboard in that Combo) will not support Celeron II's. Anyone run across the same problem!

I have never heard of Kinpo motherboards before. 😛

Make sure that all the jumpers are configured correctly on the motherboard and the slocket. If it still doesn't work, then perhaps a BIOS flash. You could try a different slocket, there are some motherboards that won't work with certain slockets, I had an Aopen AX63Pro that wouldn't work with the MSI slocket for instance. Otherwise, the motherboard just might not support it.

when it says P3 support- it may refer to the old Katami(sp?) P3s, not the newer Coppermines or Celermines. Offhand I'm not sure what the Via Apollo Pro 133a chipset can support- but i had assumed it would support the newer P3s and celeries. Are you sure you don't need a bios flash?

Set vcore voltage on Iwill higher even if CPU is at default frequency.
It should work at 1.70V . You can go up to 1.90V if needed.

If that doesnt help try different BIOS versions.
Borrow another CPU somewhere to flash BIOS.

<< According to Kinpo Tech Support, the following CPU's are Supported:
Slot 1 Type: Celeron 300A, 333; Pentium II 233 ~ 450; Pentium III 450 ~ 800
Socket 370 Type (Need a CPU Converter Card): Celeron 300, 333, 400,
- 466, 500; Pentium III 600 ~ 933
>>

from the way they word it, i don't think it supports C2's... all hope is not lost, it'll still support P3e's

If it supports P3s CuMines, it'll probably support C2. However, if you want to OC on the MB, you may be disappointed; especially with a no-name brand MB.

Try clearing CMOS. Some defaults may not be correct for the C2. Its worth the effort. Also, does the IWill slotket have a jumper option for old Celerey vs new ??

It should work OK. There must be something that you are missing.

Did you see this note: Note: If you use PIII CPU, the jumper JP11 need to set to "OFF" position

The Celeron II probably falls under the PIII category.

everything that has been said I have already taken into account. I haven't had the vcore set to a 1.7+. I might have to try that. any other ideas?

Boost vcore already. I have it at 1.80V (c600@900).
Slocket introduces longer leads so higher vcore is
sometimes needed even at default clock.

It was the same problem when my mate bought a P3B-F and a CII533Mhz - not supported - but is OK with BIOS update.
I've got a PIII450 I could swap ya if you are really stuck (1 year old retail -boxed- with warranty)... 🙂

Double check that the power switch is actually connected to the power on pins. You said you already moved the CMOS jumper to Normal, have you set the IWIL slocket back to 66 or Auto mode? When you said no boot, does the fan turn and nothing seems to happend?

Reseat the slocket. Remove all other cards except Video, disconnect harddrive, floppy and CDROM from the board, clear CMOS and try to boot. Is there anything indicates that power is coming in?

<< MOTHERBOARD
Kinpo Motherboard Model# KP0001
Supports Pentium II/III/Celeron Slot 1 CPU
Chipset: VIA Apollo Pro133A
>>

It supports Cu-mines and should support Celeron2's since it is the Via Apollo Pro133A chipset.

Contact Computer-Geeks. 🙂

I have set the slocket to everything along with messing around with every possible setting on the motherboard. Re-seated all the cards several times with memory and processor and slocket.

Are u guys sure this is not due to the BIOS not recognising the Celermine? It could be any reason as it is a new system and not yet tested.

Is there any chance you can "borrow" a CPU from one of your friends to see if it will boot up with say and older Celeron or PII/PIII?

This is exactly what happened with my mate when he got his new system - the one in my previous post with the ASUS P3B-F and C533A. The PC was still at the shop and even they could not get it to boot. He decided on a PIII 700Mhz (Price difference was not that bad) which immediately booted the system (and also runs at 933Mhz).

The ASUS P3B-F also supports the new Celeron but not without the BIOS update as far as I know. This seems like the most likely cause of your troubles - assuming there is not an actual problem with your components.

Is the slotket card definitely for a CII? Perhaps it's the wrong one?

If it's any consolation, thats a very nice price for all that stuff when u get it running.........

Beg borrow or steal that other CPU, get your system booting and look for a BIOS update 🙂

Just noticed this on the Computer Geek site

<< Note: If you use PIII CPU, the jumper JP11 need to set to "OFF" position >>

Would this apply to the CII?

This same barebones is on its way to me. I had hoped to use my CelII 566 in an Abit Slotket (good to 850 in an Abit BH6), but I also have an old 300a (good to 450+). I'll try both when mine comes. Perhaps I'll be able to offer some help then. Good luck.
