I recently made a new computer woo, but it freezes in games and 3dmark03 =(.
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813123243
CPU: athlon 64 3000+
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150111
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182012
RAM: 1gb corsair value select pc2700
1 dvd-rw
2 HDDs

This shouldnt be a heat issue because even with the side off and a house fan blowing on it, it still freezes just as fast. It will always freeze up during the Mother nature game test. I have reformatted my HHDs and have all the updated drivers and mobo bios, still freezes the same. I have disabled fast write and that also didnt do anything. Done memtest, no errors. Underclocked my card to what other 6800's are at, still freezes. Im out of ideas about what could be wrong here, PSU may not be good enough, but im some how doubting it. My CPU isnt overclocked and neither is my ram. When it freezes it requires a reset, ive waited about 5 min just to see if it was temp. fronzen, but nothing happend.

I would quickly trade out that power supply. It appears to have enough power but for that price I really doubt it. You need a quality power supply. Just think, you have $500+ in hardware hooked up to a $20 power supply.

It was actually $40 when I bought it, but I am starting to suspect that it is due to power, as it freezes of times during the greatest stress, and this video card does need a power plug, which is odd for a PCI-E card. Got one that you could reccomend that isnt more than about 60-70?

Would insuffeciant power cause it to freeze and have looping sound though? If the power wasnt high enough wouldnt the comp just restart?

Is it just me or does all Rosewill products seem to have some sort of problem for someone?

Freezing is common with underpowered power supplies. Rosewill products are just so so.

Ok I got off the phone with their support that is hard to understand (go figure), he said that it is most likely the power supply, its not a name brand so I should get another one with at least 350w and 20 amps in the 12v line. Anyone got a suggestion of what type I should get? none over $100 please.

Do a search for power supplies in General Hardware and you should have plenty of results.
