comp freezes and makes strange high pitch sounds

I've been experiencing some weird behavior on my PC lately, and I've installed two new components so I dont know which is causing the problem. But heres what happens:

When I play a game, after a few hours or an hour or so (or sometimes sooner) the whole thing would freeze and make a high pitch sound coming out of the speakers. Then I will have to force shutdown in order to get rid of the problem. The strange part is that it only happens when I play games and can come and go every now and then.

Well at first I thought it would be a heat issue, but my graphics card only reaches 60degrees while gaming, and my cpu isn't overheating either.

So what the hell do you think could be the problem?

my rig:
500w antec truepower
7900gt eVGA CO
2x1gb gskills pc4000
DFI Lanparty Ultra D
Opteron 165

I am not overclocked either. I even underclocked the card, in hopes of solving the problem but to no avail.

Oh and I recently got the 7900 and the Gskills, the comp ran fine earlier whenI was using my 6800 and just some crap kingston.

Oh and my computer does not freeze/crash at all if i'm not gaming. I can leave it on for days at a time with no problem.

Thanks in advance, hopefully someone can help me because this is getting quite annoying

cpu bios alarm sound comes out of your speakers and makes a high pitch static-y sound?

it shouldnt be the CPU overheating either, its not OCed, and has the original fan.

Sorry you don't agree, but it does sound like an over temperature problem... The only times I have seen this happen was for that very reason... and the only time you see it is during gaming is because that is when you are really taxing the CPU and GPU.

Try disabling any and all temperature alarms, warnings and protections in the BIOS etc and then run the crap out of it watch for where the smoke is coming from.

In addition to what everyone has said
Run 3dmark05 with a temp monitor like Everst to see what part might be overheating

You don't have to overclock to overheat a cpu. Faulty fan, dirty hs, poor contact between hsf and cpu can all do it.

Strange having the same problem, and the only thing new with my system is the 7900GT card.

Some mainboards and VGA cards don't play well together. Search the forums for your motherboard and VGA at thier respective sites.

Well I tried monitoring my temps and what not, it keeps a consistant 66ish when gaming for an hour+ so I don't see how a heat issue would be the problem. I also changed my CPU fan, and it still doesn't fix anything. So I think it might be a problem with the video card...I just don't know if I should RMA it or not.

gah, dont want to be weeks without a video card...
