comp-comp n/work cable name please?

I have a RJ45 cat 5 patch cable which fits my connectors but doesn't do the job of the computer-computer direct connection.
I was recommended twisted pair cable but this information is a little confusing to me when trawling through shopping sites. Does anybody know what the precise name is I should be looking for?
