My dad said that he used to computer ealier today and he got on the internet fine. I come home and my internet connection does not work, and I have a new connection under the group titled "Internet Gateway" in network connections. I also just found an actual account on my computer that I did not create, named "ASP.NET Machine A. . ." Through my administrator account I changed the name of the account and changed the password but it gave me an error.

What's going on?

this is too ontopic for techsupport forums..

anyway, you need to give us more information.

how are you getting your internet? DSL PPPOE? direct cable connection? shared internet via router or a computer-with-two-ethernet-jacks-with-networkhub/switch?..

is the computer on a network where another computer that's got internet connection sharing enabled.

The aspnet_wp or ASP.NET Machine Account is created when the Microsoft .Net Framework is installed onto a Windows XP computer. The user is created for the asp.net worker process used in Microsoft's Internet Information Services to fully support ASP.net on your web server (This is pretty much its only use, it is not used to run normal .net managed executables) . There is not a need to worry about this users presence, it was not created in malicious way.

Alright. I'm connected through cable. Modem - router - switch. And yes this computer is on a network where another computer has file sharing enabled.

Does anyone know how I can get my internet connection back up then?

Not file sharing, but internet connection sharing. Check if the ICS is enabled on the other computer. If it is, disable it cause it sounds like you shouldn't need it.
