There's really no excuse for that IMHO.

I live 3 blocks from work and I'm ALWAYS at least 5 minutes early. I shoot for 30 minutes and take a longer lunch.

I live about 6 blocks from office (12-15 minutes walking) and am on time 80% of the time. Sometimes 5-10 minutes late depending on the line at our cafetarias to get breakfast.

20 minutes

I live 3 freeway exits away.
17 minutes to get to the freeway and 3 minutes from there.
The reason why it takes so long is because of the area I live in.
I live about a mile from a high school, a middle school, 2 grade school and lots of stop
sign. Theres always traffic because of parents dropping off their kids.

i assume you are an investment banker as well? if yes, that's still good for IB. I used to work 8am - 3am during my first 2 years.

6 miles away. Takes 30 minutes from warming up my car, driving, finding parking, walking to the office.

40ish miles.

15 minutes driving to the train station
+ 45 minutes on the train (yes this is an express train)
+ 15 minutes walking to work
====================================
1 hour, 15 minutes commuting (one way).
* 2
====================================
Total of 2 hours, 30 minutes commuting (each day).

At least most of it's on the train so I can (somewhat) chill out, instead of having to pay attention to the road, etc....

40 miles
1 hr 15 min - 1 hr - 45 min driving...

if i had a bike, i could pedal half of my commute and be faster than all the traffic on the interstate.

I live 28 miles from work - takes about 30 minutes.

I don't have any set schedule, but I get to work at least 1 hour before anybody else - primarily to beat traffic in/out (you've got to love NoVA!).
