Ok which kind of commute would you rather have?

I have realized that I would MUCH rather drive a much longer distance if it meant I wouldnt be in heavy (stop and go) traffic. Just wondering what others thought.

Stop and go just drives me NUTS!

I wouldn't even mind a constant of like 30mph, so long as dont have to brake and change gears all the time.

I drive about 60 miles round trip to work now and it takes me anywhere from 20-60 minutes each way depending on traffic flow. id rather go farther and be guaranteed there wouldnt be a traffic jam along the way than sit and waste time for an hour for a shorter haul.

If it was guaranteed 15miles = 1hr I could do it. It's the random 1hr on some days and 20 minutes on others that'll drive you crazy. Consdiering that the 60mile trip could have those as well, so your minimum time is an hour I say it's worse.

if the commutes are going to be the same amount of time...then easily the one with no traffic...by the time its all said and done the gas isnt going to be that big of a difference...and if it takes the same chunk out of your day, why not go with the one with no traffic?

its certianly easier on my clutch...

I drive 50 miles with almost no traffic which takes about 1 hour to get to my "other" employer. I love the drive. My main employer is a 25 mile drive which takes 35 minutes with plenty of traffic, and it is a horrible drive.

Stop and go blows. I don't mind it so much if it's traffic lights that are holding you up. But if it's 6+ lanes of freeway that is bumper to bumper crawling along at 5MPH then I'd rather move than put up with it.

traffic sucks. if there was no traffic, a 15 mile trip wouldn't take 1 hour to commute in, of course. so it's a waste of, say, 45 minutes of your lives per day (or twice per day if you're considering it round trip).

Knowing that it would take me the same time to get to work each day would be heavenly. I take the no traffic.

Hell if only 15 miles, you can bike that in an hour. And as you get into better shape, you can bike it in ~40 minutes.

I drive about 28 miles each way. In the morning when I leave to go to work (about 6 am) it takes me 30 minutes to get here. When I leave (around 4pm), it takes me just over an hour to get back.

I would definitely rather drive further with no traffic.

When I was 18-19 I had a 40 mile commute for 45 mins of driving time. It was light traffic on highways.

19-22 I had a 9 mile commute with medium traffic also highway travel @ 45-50mph.

Now I have a 2 mile commute with medium traffic @ 40mph for a 4 min commute...sometimes longer if I don't make the lights just right...but it's not bad at all. :)

I usually try to work close to where I live.
