I'm wanting to put together a new box for my Son's birthday, I've got a budget of around 1800.00 that I'm looking to spend. I can use the Sata drives, the Sound Card, and the dvd burner thats in the old machine but thats about it. He is a really big gamer and we really wont be doing any sort of over clocking at all. I can put the machine together myself or would consider a pre-configured machine considering that Im not totally stuck on 1800 bucks but after looking at some of the high end machines out there I'm trying to put together something that will I wont have the same problem in a year or blow a months salary pulling it off. He's into mainly FPS and when I see games like Crysis out there it makes my wallet just cringe. So I've been out of the loop for quite some time now so I turn to the Community of experts for advice or a good direction to get me started. I've got 2 weeks from today to complete this project and will also be needing an operating system. I've got a retail version of xp but was sort of leaning torwards using Vista. Thank You in advance.

would that 1800 also include a new monitor?

if not, what resolution is the one you already have?

The monitor is good its an Apple 23 inch flat screen 1920 x 1200 its not a problem, the video card thats currently in his machine is the BFG 6800 ultra. So that may be salvagable as well.

Might want to post this in General Hardware if it is for a Desktop System.

MB=Abit IP35 Pro or Asus P5k

POWER SUPPLY=? 500 Watt ? 600W?
I like the cables wrapped.

CPU=Intel E8400 (45nm Die Process)

RAM=2 GB Corsair or other name brand ? I dont think 4 GB is worth buying but some people do.
4GB does not show up with a 32 bit versions of XP or Vista. Try 4GB if you want.

Video Card= EVGA 8600GT or 8800GTS?

HD=Seagate 500Gig

DVD=Lite-On 20X +-/RW Write all Formats

OS=XP
