Communications Progam (98SE/XP) Needed!

I'm looking for a Communications Program (hopefully share/freeware) that works with both
Win98SE and XP. It has to allow a disable init string for each session.
What I mean is....Hyperterminal, that comes with windows, does not allow an init string.
You have to do it through the modem properties and this means it applies to ALL modem
connections, DUN, BBS, etc.....
I just want to turn off V90 for 1 BBS connection locally and when I'm finished with the call,
V90 will be enabled again.
(I've got this local Library connection that won't take anything with V90)
Any Comm softwar suggestions???
