Communication Problems with winXP

hey guys, I have this weird XP problem. My friends and I all upgraded at the same time to XP pro.

If I try and ping or connect in any way (ftp, games, ping, whatever) to friend A's computer it doesn't work times out/doesn't work.
If I do the same thing to friend B it works fine.

Because of other reasons I reformatted yesterday and guess what? Now it's switched. I can connect to friend A but not to B... WTF is going on?

I have a Linksys 4 port cable/dsl router, DMZ hosting enabled on my computer
FTP ports are forwarded, along with other ones i need, but why can't i ping him, and why did it switch when i reformated?
