Commodore cases with Ckin

QueBert

I could only find a few tid bits outside of the Commodore web site about these, but DAMN they look killer on the Commodore site, and the price seems really good. I got excited and tried to order one but you need to own one of their systems and have a serial number, sh!t lol. Has anyone actually seen one of these cases in person?

Their web site is a bit confusing, one place it says to order a Ckin case you need to own a Commodore system and have a serial number, on another place it says you need to own a case. And you can buy an Eve On-Line case without owning sh!t. I don't know what Chassy they use, it doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before. The default old school looking case is BAD ASS! I grew up in love with my C64 and this case reminds me of my childhood. I would pay bucks for this.

Does anyone know anything about the chassies or the Ckin? the pain jobs look crazy nice, and the case alone looks pretty sick

Unique floating front door - can be closed with USB cables connected - sounds like a cool feature.

The systems seem pretty nice specs wise, I already have a decent enough system so I can't justify spending 1k+ on one just to get one of the cases. But... I WANT ONE OF THESE CASES!!! 😀 I don't want an Eve-Online one though 🙁 I can't be the only one here diging these. The retro one is so awesome *siiiiigh*

actually I just emailed their support, he said you can buy the chassy itself and get any Ckin on it for 249 Euro + shipping. I emailed back asking how much it would cost to get the case to the USA.

What I really want to know is how good the case actually is outside of the paint job. If you don't own a PC or want a new system, their prices aren't too bad, I just priced out their Commodore G on Newegg with the same components and it's only coming out about $175 less. And with that you're getting a vanilla case. I wouldn't say that's grossly overpriced like a Dell GPX rig. I think they're reasonably priced considering how nice the cases are, any other system with a similar custom painted case will cost A LOT more. Hell Falcon charges close to $1199 for their custom painted cases alone 😀

*edit*

he emailed me back saying he'd ask the US people if they did it yet, but if not they could ship from EU, for a much higher shipping price of course. He said when the USA department is up and running 100% they should offer the same thing.

I'm definitely going to be ordering the retro looking c-64 case, so damn sweet *drool*

their support is solid, I've gotten 3 emails back already from when I inquired about the case last night, I'm still curious to know about the case though, they don't go into much detail about it's specs, but unless the shipping from EU is hella crazy I think I'm going to order one of these. Now I pose a question for you good people here, where could I get my monitor/keyboard & mouse custom painted to match the classic light brown of the C-64.

really? without the case and power supply, I getting a total for $608@ newegg ($588 after rebate):

LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model GH22LS30 - $28.99

HITACHI Deskstar P7K500 (0A35399) 250GB 7200 RPM SATA $54.99

CHAINTECH GSE95GT DDR2 512MB GeForce 9500 GT 512MB $69.99

CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 2 DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $21.99

ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLi $139.99

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz $169.99

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium $122.99

yeah really, the case you're leaving out is $400 and the PSU you're leaving out is about $125, that's $525 you're conviently not mentioning to prove a point that if I buy part by part I can build the same hardware for about $175 less. Go figure that a pre-built will cost more! I said $175 more. $1299 - $400 - $125 = $774. I used your numbers and came up with a difference of $186 after rebate, sorry I was $11 off, my bad...

Yes it cost more, but it's pre built with sound dampening material added. I don't think I've ever seen a pre-built gaming rig with a price even close to Newegg's offering. The bottom line is it's NOT a bad price for a pre built system with a heavily painted case. Again I point people to Coolermaster or Falcon where they sell CASES ALONE that cost more than these entire systems.

I priced the same setup with the cheapest custom painted CoolerMaster case they sell on Newegg & a CM 750 watt PSU and interestingly enough the total was $1512 and the case wasn't close to as nicely painted. And I didn't factor in the sound dampening material which would be around $40 bucks.

$1299 for the Commodore Vs. $1,554 for the Newegg one, I have to build myself. How again is this system not a pretty good price for what you get? Of course it's expensive but you have to factor in what you get with it.

all I'm saying is $700 is a WHOLE lot of money to spend on a PSU and a case... If you want to drop that kind of money on a case and PSU, more power to you. I think most here will agree that the $700 difference between the components (minus PSU and case) and the commodore system is better spent elsewhere.

BTW, is there is single internal shot of the case so we can at least get an idea about functionality? I can't seem to find one in their site.

I agree with you, but Commodore is targeting an exact audience with these, ones who want over the top painted cases. As far as those type of systems go they have good prices. As for internal shots, I'm guessing it's going to be 80% style and 20% function. Not to say the cooling will be bad, but I'm guessing it'll be more about appearance here. with sound dampening included I would hope they are quite, they don't get into details about what kinda fans and sh!t they use, so maybe it's a pretty hunk of junk 🙂

I generally don't get too jazzed about cases with artwork on them but the retro C-64 one has a certain cool to it. And I fear I'll be ordering one of the cases as soon as the USA dudes get their sh!t together and start offering them. I might just be throwing $400 down the drain lol.

did you forget to add the cost of tech support?

To someone who has very little knowledge in building a computer, tech support is worth the price up.
