Is there anybody out there that still regularly uses a Commodore 64 or 128? If so, what do you still use it for? I think those were great computers and I've read about people that still use them, but I thought I'd find out if these rumors were true. :)

I used to used up until a few (3) years ago to play some old classic games. But now I use the emulator VICE to play'em.
They were great computers and they can be used for many fun things even now. Learn to code assembler on them, then you can computerise your home. LOL!
I got my first computer experience on those boxes. RIP

Never had a Commodore but that brought back some memories

Which reminds me of a game I played back in 6th grade at school..It was probably 16 years or so ago and wasn't on a Mac. I think it was on an all-in-one unit..you know black screen fuzzy green lettering, built in keyboard.

Not sure what kind of machine that was, but the game was medievilish, had to do with serfs and buying grain and stuff. Any ideas on what it was called?

Same here - I would run my p4 1.6A oced @ 2.2 more but I feel that the 32kb ROM and 32kb ROM have better performance...;)

I did have a C64 back in the day (1982) and it was the shiite! Zork, Karateka, you name it I played it! But it's like an Atari 2600, a novelty and no more. Why would I want to go back to Pong after I've played SSX or GT3?

geez, jump down my throat, I was asking a serious question.

Don't laugh about the web server--there actually is a web BROWSER for the Commodore, believe it or not.

The VICE emulator is cool, I fire it up a few times a year and play some of the old games. :)

1571 drives were the bomb back in the day, although I remember the 1581 too, man the capacity of those things was amazing back then. :-D

Pong was leet, that's why'd you go back. hehe j/k

Anyone else?

I frequently play Everquest on my Commodore 64. I have to load 537 cassete tapes though...

My dad sold his C64 stuff last year. Some guy was really eager to pay like $50 for it. Whatever, we didn't want it.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Yeah, I remember the days of having a C128 and a 1571 Floppy Drive. Games like M.U.L.E., Archon, Summer Games I & II, Raid Over Moscow, Elite, The Bard's Tale, among others were great for that time. Oh the memories.

And it didn't come w/ a floppy drive, had to go buy that scanner sized thing as an add-on...think that alone cost $50 at the time..then i became jealous of everyone that had the far superior vic 20 with a tan - the commodore 64

typin' on my six fo....

What a great computer back in the day!

My stap-pappy still uses the 64 from time to time to access all his old word processing files.

I still have and use occassionally, a C128D. It has a detached keyboard, built in floppy (1571) and RGB output. Actually had 192kb of ram. It looks a lot like an IBM PC.

I have attached to it an 8050 floppy drive. Thats a dual drive with a 1 meg/floppy capacity.

With Basic 7 it was a blast to program.

Sounds like an old CBM Pet 4032.

I've sold my maaaaaaany moons ago. I loved it though! I still have hundreds of games on tapes for the C64.....hehehe those were the days of 'tape storage' in a very primitive stage :D --- rewind, stop, play ....and hope the tape isn't bent and the game will load!

I haven't used mine in awhile, but it still works. I have about 200 disks containing word processors, spreadsheets, a GUI that looks a lot like Mac OS, a bunch of games, and some crap I wrote over the years.

Once in awhile, I put it back together and fire it up. VICE is nice, but it's not the same as waiting 10 minutes for a game to load from a tape and then playing it with an Atari 2600 joystick plugged into port 2, against all logic. :)

You can connect your 1541 or 1571 to the PC and read the disks. LOL!!
It only takes a cable and some software. I think it was the paralell port. LOL!

I made my girlfriend let me set up her Commodore 64 over the summer last year. I had never used one before that. That was one sweet computer. Her parents offerent to give it to me if I wanted it but my girlfriend wouldn't give it up. :)
