commercials and advertising have ruined the internet

I just hate it, it's annoying. Just imagine what would happen if advertising took over your favorite magazine, TV show, or movie. Chaos...pure chaos.

It's like farenheit 451 just took over the world and was like hey, GUESS WHAT things are going DOWNHILL!

Anyway, I'm going to start my own free internet, but I need a few sponsors to assist me. Unfortunately I can't guarantee any advertising space.

Wat?

Adblock Plus

Also you do know that ads are what keep the internet free right? Google, youtube, <insert internet service here> all function by ad revenue. If you want to pay a monthly subscription fee to use Google and youtube et al fine by me. I'll stick to skipping the ads.

Internet ads I can live with. I rather see ads on a site then having to pay for the service. But commercials on video sites are by far the most annoying thing ever. Even Youtube has started doing that crap. What pisses me off is often you HAVE to watch it for the rest of the video to buffer. I like to just hit pause on a video, go do something else and then come back and watch it, but with these commercials I'm often forced to watch the whole thing so I can then hit pause to buffer the video.

Correct, my op should contain enough information to conclude that although ads are annoying, they are essential to a free internet, and in actuality, a huge part of every major media we experience

Was just thinking this the other day. Stumbling isn't what it used to be now that I more often than not have to sit through a commercial before I see a video.

Just get a good ad blocker, and whitelist *.anandtech.com. Problem solved.

adblock plus + a program called admuncher = no ads anywhere. Adblock plus gets rid of most of the ads and Admuncher takes care of the rest. Admuncher works really well for the annoying video advertisements before and during flash video.
No... no it's not. Most sites with ads now have their video players coded so if the ad is blocked the video doesn't play at all.
Never ran into a site like that.

Last I checked there were some atrocious ads here. I have them blocked, but I generally whitelist sites I want to support AND don't have obnoxious ads.

I don't know if it's the adblock in Chrome or what, but I've ran into a number of them.

Eh it isn't too annoying. Ads on TV are by far the worst.

That's what a dvr is for. ;)

Never seen one but then again I really only watch some on youtube or hulu and you can block them unless they are part of the video themselves.

I can't recall what sites they are, but several pop up while stumbling all the time. I get a blank screen until I go to the adblock icon, click "don't run on this page" and refresh. Then it loads a 30 second commercial which pisses me off so I just skip the page anyway.

I never knew Youtube started doing that because apparently Adblock stops that from happening

Now if they'd only invent a DVR that would let me skip through the fucking ads while I'm watching live...:p

Internet adds are far worse. Not only does their volume vary widely, but when watching a stream, the same add is often played 3 or 4 times in a row. Honestly, I don't mind watching adds when the content is free, but play different adds damnit!

I never watch tv on live anymore, I am that spoiled by it and love it to much. :p

And if I ever start a program just shortly after it started recording or such I will pause when the commercials start if I catch up on the recording and go do something for a bit.
