Commercial wireless setup - Need advice

I may soon be setting up a connection for an apartment complex to offer Internet access to its residents wirelessly. It's a pretty large (4 story) complex. I'm not sure what the walls are made out of, so I'll assume that some signal can get through them and that it will have to be strengthened somehow every X amount of feet... Let's say 50. What kind of hardware would I need to accomplish this? Can I just get a number of WAP's and somehow have them share registered client and network info?

I have a good deal of networking knowhow but very limited wirless experience. Any suggestions for how to proceed in terms of what hardware to get and how to administer it would be most appreciated. Thanks!
