Is this a gaming machine? You are REALLY holding back the system with a TNT2 Ultra. You should at least get something like a GeForce 2 Ultra if not a GeForce 3 to really take advantage of the system.

I know. A new video card would REALLY help you out a lot. Radeons are nice :)

primary master: maxtor ata100
primary slave: iomega internal 250mb zipdrive
secondary master: western digital ata66
secondary slave: sony 52x cdrom

You want both your HDs to be masters for best access. And since your main HD is probably going to be used in conjunction with your CDROM for games you want them on seperate channels.

1) I question the future effectiveness of that 300watt PS when you start adding mor devices like cd-rw...I would go 350watt, but you may be fine though. Just trying to head off future power problmes which sometimes are tough to diagnois.

2)hopefully you avoid many of the issues ppl have been having with zip drives and southbridge chipset...do some research to see if ppl have figured out some of the issues. i dunno all about it I just remember seeing many threads about it.

3)If you get a pci card put your harddrives on its 2 ide channels then the cd-rom as pri master and zip as sec. master until you get cd-rw when you should put that as sec. master and zip drive as pri. slave.

I suggest a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. The sound is great:) What speakers are you getting?

Nobody likes to answer your root question, huh? My advice is if you get a PCI IDE card to attach more devices is to attach the hard drives to the card and keep everything else on the mobo IDEs. Maybe Maxtor - Primary Master on card, WD - Secondary Master on card, Burner - Primary Master on mobo, DVD or CD-ROM - Secondary Master on mobo, and Internal Zip - Secondary Slave on mobo. Key is to keep the Burner on a separate channel from whatever you are burning from so that you can maximize the data transfer.
