Comments on Toshiba M40

I've been looking at laptops, and have recently decided on the Acer Ferrari 4005WMLi, which I could get in Canada for $2400. The other day I spotted the Toshiba M40-SF3 for $400 less.

I could do a lot with $400.

I looked at the M40 the other day in-store, pretty nice machine. The "TruBrite" display was amazingly sharp and bright. Better than any of the HPs and other brands around it.
I'm wondering if anyone has any big problems with this peticular laptop, or similar ones. I'm also assuming this laptop will compare to the Ferrari in gaming, due to the fact that the Go 6600 is comparable to the Mobility X700.

Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't say that the Go 6600 is comparable to the X700 just yet. I don't know how many pipelines the Go 6600 has officially, still waiting on NVIDIA to respond 😉

That said the Toshiba is a great machine; biggest downside is the 4200RPM hard drive.

Also, a number of users are having similar and unforseen technical issues with the Ferrari 4000's.

Personally I think the Toshiba is a better buy, the Ferrari just has a lot of flash to it 😉

I've seen pretty close numbers in benchmarks on the two cards, the 6600 doing better in Doom III, the X700 traditionally better in HL2, etc. etc... Synthetic benchmarks were pretty close too, both cards are in the 6000 range in 3DMark03, stuff like that, so they seem close to me. Anyway, yeah, I plan plan to upgrade that HD sometime in the future if I get the M40, plus that screen is just amazing.
I'll still be interested in seeing the review on the Ferrari, so hurry up with that 😉.
