Hi, i'm looking to get the IBM X40 Laptop

I was wondering if anyone that owns one now could tell me their specs.
Did you get the docking station or the extended battery?
Do you need the docking station or could you just guy a External CD/DVD drive that you liked and use that

What is the real time battery life?
It says 7 hours on their web site but i'm sure its lower than that

How much longer can the laptop go with the extended battery?

All comments welcome.
Thanks

Looking to buy the IBM X40 I went to ibm.com and they cost about $2,200 for what i want retail

This is pretty expensive and wanted to shop around so i went to ebay.com

I saw almost the same specs of what i wanted but about $600 dollars cheaper.
The only draw back is that its refurbished.
It is IBM certified, so it was looked at over again then re-packaged

anyawy, my question is, what is your opinion on buying factory reconditioned things?
Should i go retail (IBM.com) or go refurbished (ebay.com)

>Get the system extended battery. There is another extended battery that docks on the bottem if you are looking for over ten hours of battery life.

> You can do either. It's easier to carry it all with you with the dock but cheaper with just an external.

>yup.... Mileage will vary.

Heya,

I've purchased refurbished laptops from IBM before when the company I worked for needed additional laptops on the cheap (from what's left of the IT dept budget allocation). It worked out well-- Three IBM Thinkpad 701C's with the pop-out keyboard 10 years ago, and five Thinkpad 600X's later on. The only drawback is that support policy for the refurbs are not quite as good as the retail-new machines. But the refurbs have been reliable and any repairs that are needed in our experience is user-caused (accidental drops).
