Especially wondering what memory. I need to OC but has to end up stable with no 55 decibel fans (public area), guess could get into watercooled after a few more paychecks.
I need 1 Gig for sure. 3500 would be nice.

The setup so far -- way open to suggestions/corrections:
______________________________________________

AMD 2600+ Mobile, missed again on the 35w 2400s
DFI NFII Ultra Infinity
Thermalright SLK947U + Fan ( or quieter Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu )
Artic Silver 5

Sapphire 9800 Pro
Antec TruePower 480 ( or quieter Fortron 350W )
MAXTOP Signature Series Type II 26.00 @ NewEgg (thanks Lyfer)
NEC ND-2500A CD/DVD Burner

Onboard sound, LAN, etc.
Headphones, keyboard, mouse, monitor, harddrives
May have to get XP dangit

Input MUCH appreciated. :D

Edit: I see in this thread that he's running SLK 900A w/ Panaflo L1A @ 7V. Sounds quiet.

For overclocking, nothing beats Thermalrights. And I'm not one of those people who can't stand to hear my computer, but I would guess that an SLK947 with a quiet 92mm fan would be no louder than a Zalman 7000 AlCu, while still cooling better. For memory, any of the better brands of memory will work fine, except the Value lines. Alot of the "Value" lines won't run in dual-channel mode, or won't do it at their rated speeds.

edit: I forgot power supplies. This is the one that I would recommend: Enermax 465. It has 50% more amps on the 12v rail (the most important rail), and costs less than the Antec TruPower 480.

might want to remind you that the SLK-947U wont fit on that infinity without the neo backplate...which is sold seperate...and is also sold out everywhere...so yeah...good luck finding one!

<Edit>

Myo:
10-4 on the Enermax: 35A=nice. I seem to recall you are not a fan of the split rails.
Stability and lack of mystery problems are the non-plus-ultra/sine-qua-non/raisin-detra/whatever of PSUs. I will go there.

AJ:
I heard it's only a mm or two on the "nub" of it with the NF7-s tho, according to magratton here
About the same with the DFI Infinity? OK lookit this amdb DFI thread there are some comments which seem to say a substantial part has to get removed and one that says he got it working better with neo backplate, but 20 bucks worth? Again - I will go there.

did you even understand what he posted? he had problems because he is playing with EXPERIMENTAL bios versions on his board, and he wonders why he has problems.

i have both a lanparty and infinity, they are both excellent boards.

i'd recommend getting your cpu here so you can pick your stepping: bonk

might i also suggest Geil ram, they are often overlooked. they've been working their way into the high quality spectrum of ram making, my 400mhz gold series pulls 500mhz lightly out of spec, and 440mhz in spec. $130 for 512megs last i checked.

Thats exactly where I was looking for the CPU thanks.
As far as the BIOS, um, can't say I am an expert. But he did say noob-need-not-apply. From what I read, all the recent BIOS are beta and third party. Are you running the official 2003/10/01? Also read that people use tic-tac for the NF7 quite successfully, near standard.

i use the latest DFI release on both the boards, they work perfectly. is there really a need to install a different bios? its a known issue that theses beta bios have a tendency to screw up the DFI boards and people are still silly enough to do it,let them go ahead and kill their hardware.

OK! Got the DFI! Even though the NF7 was on combo special with the DVD I wanted. No doubt I will go ahead and kill my hardware too, but it felt like I'd be letting you all down..

YO - also got the 35Watt 2400 it's back on new egg!

just kidding about the let-down man - but kind of didnt want to feel like another :Q :Q :Q :Q brainwashed follower (I am old)
of the OC guide.

Yeah I'll probably kill Something. Part of life...
I looked at the change log/release notes
of one of the hacker bioses and it looks like mostly enhancements. For me, I need stability because I will have to be working on the machine as well, so yeah probably Wont go There.

Can't Wait to get the stuff. The seagate sata NCQ drives are supposed to be out later this/early next month, probably will hold out for them and just use whatever hard drive in the meantime.

No advantage of going beyond pc3200 because you want to maintain 1:1?

corsair XMS is great ram, the low latency version of it is nice.

And get the Zalaman CNPS 7000AL-CU

no advantage in getting anything beyond 3200 but make sure your RAM can pull off good timings.

The higher frequency RAM (the 3500 would be a good choice) is so you can raise your FSB as high as possible without your RAM bottlenecking you.

Cool. Would I take a performance hit if I dont run up the FSB to match?? Like the PC4000 is almost the same price and would be better to take with me to my next machine when this one becomes the family comp.. but someone said that these XP chips suck wind away from 1:1.

Some 3500:

Geil 1GB ( 2 x 512MB ) PC3500
$259.00 CAS 2.5 6-3-3
* Not gold dragon, platinum or anything. Seen gold for 50$ more same timings

Kingston 1GB KIT HyperX Series PC3500
$301.00 CAS 2.5-3-3-7-1

OCZ Enhanced Latency Dual Channel Series Memory 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3500
$285.00 CAS 2-3-3-7 T1

3200 is like 50$ cheaper, corsair platinum 1Gig for

~ $260 CAS 2-3-3

i would never recommend running the ram and cpu FSB at ratios and different speeds, it takes a performance hit. DFI makes pretty much the only motherboard that guarentees you the ability to hit 250mhz+ FSB speeds with the barton(yes,a 1:1 ratio). you could probably easily run that Geil ram up to 225 at stock timings since it has the ability to run 3 volts within its specs :)

the Geil is cheaper and they are all very similar aside from mild timing differences which don't effect computers like they once did. i'd say get whatevers cheaper

What ever happened to the OCZ Gold PC3700? I can't find it anywhere and it's some of the better RAM out there.

Can I make it clear that I am a total gawking noob?:cool::thumbsup:

Yeah these guys seem to really be pushing it with the NF7-S.

Shooting for 12*200 fsb : I should go for the PC3200?

Shooting for 12*216 fsb : I should go for the PC3500?

This is with 2 sticks of 512, 2400+ mobile 35Watt remember.
