I just finished playing three 'awful' games (from reviews) so being bored I thought i would comment:

Dungeon Siege - very good effort and decent presentation with interesting maps. The controls and camera were a bit wonky on pc but not outright awful - definitely worth the $20 for the game and expansion (I recommend the expansion). I'd give it a 7.5 because it was kind of short and there is really no excuse for wonky controls. Also most of the maps were a bit linear in nature but at few were more open and they were not repetitive (see next)

Dragon Age 2 - this game really wasn't that bad and the length was fine; but constant reuse of the same map over and over and over and (did i say they constantly reused the same maps?) was a real bore by the end. Also it was easy to miss chunks of the game (like meeting isabella) which was a bit of a downer; definitely worth a second play through but I'd give it a 7.5 (mostly due to the really lousy reuse of maps). If they had spent a bit of extra time on the maps and a few other details it could ahve easily been an 8 or 8.5

Duke Nukem - crise the score is not low enough; just plain awful. I'd give it a 4.

As a comparison for a game that folks really liked Skyrim; I would only give it an 8.5. THe major flaw with this game is the world never changes; no matter what you do.

Witcher 2 would probably be a 9 though it had that console dumb downess feeling.

I'm trying to think of a truely great game I played in the last three years (unforutnatelY i have not played a few highly rated games yet; but picked a few up during this year sale):

I'd give all these games a 9+ Batman: Arkham Asylum; mass effect 2 (I know a lot of folks didn't like that one); dragon age 1 (though I found combat more fun in dragon age 2). Oh year I really liked King Arthur (but i can't really give it a 9+ due to crashes).

Most of the other really good games I can think of didn't come out the past 3 years (bg2, half life x, deus, rome total war, ...)

Alas there have been some really good games the last couple of years that I missed due to spending too much time with king bounty series; while I really like that game it is a very specialized market so I won't rate it :)

I know I know no one else here will agree with me - i must be broken.

I only played the demo for Dungeon Siege 3. It was ok, not bad, but I had not interet in the game afterwards. Dragon Age II is decent, but disappointing coming from BioWare. Duke Nukem Forever -- never played it, and never WANT to play it. Making fun of rape is not funny or clever in any way. It's sick.

Ya know 4 technically puts it close to 'average' among games.

What's up with only like the worst 5% of games getting a 5 or lower in game reviews?

conditioned expectations of the masses. While 5 should be middle of the pack average, people think on the adjusted grading curve of 10=100% or A+ or 8 = 80% which is a B, etc, and then we get to 5 which = 50% or an F, thus the masses would see a 5 and think failure instead of average.

actually realistically speaking DNF wasnt a bad game.. just underwhelming. all vaporware games that see a store shelf wind up this way. duke nukem does it and he gets bashed as a shipwreck. like cmon! yars revenge did it and well no one gave a ----, it was a poor game anyway but it got a far fairer shake than the king did.
i liked duke nukem tbh with you. it reminded me alot of older ps2 console fps's like killzone 1, darkwatch and urban chaos:RR, which were (prior to me finding pc gaming) some of the best fps fun id had in a while.
i highly recommend renting it to any console owner as its definitely a solid rental title, one you might actually finish while you still have possess it.
long live duke!

Dragon Age 2... balance is odd, its either to easy to to hard.

Warrior's get like 2 spamable skills (with a 2hander), on long cooldowns, so its just click and watch your toon hack away at stuff. Boreing as all hell..... Rogue? slightly better but more or less same thing.

Dragon Age 2 works well enough for mages..... thats about it.

The game is okay, but its not nearly as fun to play as say Skyrim is.

You know what I miss?

BG2 type story driven, open worlds with turn based fights that rely on people useing stratagie to win.

exsample would be like FF7-9.....

then comes FF10 and its a closed world without exploreing really (and timers on turns(I think?)),... and it just goes down hill from there. Which is sad because I used to love those games from SquireSoft.
