Has anyone tried using cmd:wilogutl /q /l c:\mymsilog.log /o c\outputdir\ on w7 x64 laptop? And did it work? It's suppose to analyze log files.

Steps completed but didn't fix blacked out screen:
Only f8 works to use safe mode (x32?)options. OS crashes when starting (x64?)up, screen: black and hdd still running with no unusual noises. Won't shutoff until power supply unplugged.

Hooked up to a monitor and screen still black. Cmd: bcdedit not available, ran successful memdiag in safemode. Windows key + B: MS flags for security and updates. No other errors showing.

If it launches in safe mode, but not normal mode, it sounds like a bad driver. Next time you are in safe mode, I would look in Programs and Features and Windows Updates for any recent driver updates.

Thank you for websites. Went to HP's site and found more info on older laptop drivers that had been updated and Intel found update for W7 x64 for i3 series. Not allowing an install while in safemode. DriverVerify setup and checked. After reboot still blacked out screen and this time it played Win 7 tune. So I will continue verify /querysetting cmd to see if I eventually get bsod to come up with IRQL and driver error. No luck or option to get to bios. MMC was showing no critical kernel errors, or any errors while still in safemode w/internet connecting.
Windows Updates won't run in safemode.

Ok,
Ran Prog. and Features and Windows Updates verified, no recent driver updates So far no bsod, but still can't launch OS without black screen. If I can only start in F8 safe mode, is there anyway I can flash bios in safe mode at elevated ADMIN cmd.?

BIOS flashing would be done from the BIOS, not from a command prompt. The update HP offers in embedded in an exe, so it shouldn't have a problem running from safe mode.

You may want to try a Windows 7 repair install:

If the issue just started with no recent changes to the system, I don't know that the BIOS update will help you.
