I use Windows 2000 Pro, I just finished building my comp and eveyrthing has been going fine until up to this point. This recently started happening last night, when I was downloading off of Bittorrent. I woke up this mourning going to my PC and seeing that every 10-30 seconds command prompt opens automatically for less then a second and closes right back up. This is really bad for me because I play games and it kicks me out of them when this happens! Does anyone have any thought of what is going on?

*Note* - I ran Adware Scanner as well as Norton. Nothing came up...please help thanks.

Check your processes and also look to see if there is something in your scheduler. It sounds like an applet or utility is scheduled to fire off at regular intervals.

Do you have mIRC installed? If so, uninstall and see if that does it... There have been reports of mIRC causing that problem... I cant recall why exactly

For ITJunkie, I already checked, all I have are norton anti-virus software scheduled virus checks, for the processes I closed them all except for the ones that cannot be closed and they still popped up. For VicodiN yes I do have mIRC installed. I deleted it and re-installed it and it still did that. I caught the Command Prompt Once in a blink of a second and there was nothing in the box. One time that it lagged and the command prompt opened I saw a quick glance and it said something like Windows 2000 has finished......and I didn't catch the rest. It keeps doing this. Man this really sucks, I do not want to have to reformat just for this little problem...

Ok I got a long look at the message this time, it lagged for like 3 seconds. It said something like Something has been resolved DNS Cache, and it does that over and over. If this happens again I will piece the words together...man this is so annoying

Finally I have seen it. For some reason there is something automactically going into command prompt doing c:\>ipconfig /flushdns. The Message is: <Successfully Flushed the DNS Resolver Cache> It keeps coming every 30 seconds popping up out of no where. It kicks me out of all my anime movies and my games.........can someone help please?:(

Uninstall mIRC - do not reinstall, and see if it still does it..
Also disable telnet by doing the following :

- Start, type 'services.msc'
- Scroll down to 'Telnet', double click.
- Change 'Startup Type' to DISABLED.
- Apply, OK

Should also install a firewall of some type to see what kind of traffic you have going in and out... I mean, it sounds like some sort of 'trojan' which is wh0ring your bandwidth (i know you did a virus scan.) you may also wish to try a different virus scan, just to cover everything...

Panda Software offers a free online scanner (at the link provided.)...

Ok, the mIRC I uninstalled it and waited and it still was doing it, so I disabled the telnet like you told me too it seems to be working, but here is the big thing. I just used Trend Micro Housecall and they found this: malware.WORM_AGOBOT.P that sounds like a pretty nasty virus. It is really weird cause I had this computer up 2 weeks ago and have only been using it for less then 2 weeks and already a virus! I've been using my other PC for over 2 years and never one virus.....until MSBLAST.....anyway thanks. If this still happens I will be sure to post another message, thanks again.
