Command-line clients

I have often used a command-line version of the Seti Classic client to burn in client's computers - the main reason being that I did not have to do any sort of an install.

With Seti ending, I'm wondering if there are other projects that would allow me to do the same - the only real criteria is that I can download a client and run it from a directory which I would later delete - no installation packages...

Folding@Home has a CLI download.
Matter of fact I am finding it a good stability tester...
Sometimes works harder than Prime95 and memtest86!

The console client does not install, but it does add a Registry Key that holds the UserID.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PandeGroup"

FYI just in case you wanted to totally clean up all trace.

The F@H TeAm number is 198.

WUs vary in points worth. If they are worth more points they usually take longer to finish.

You could download a new client for each computer (you would need to go through the configuration each time, takes less than a minute). Or you could just move an established directory, (the computer would need to be connected to internet to get a UserID for the computer). Note: UserID has nothing to do with user name, it helps keep track of stats and other things.

The advantage of moving the directory is that you would not have to choose between waiting for WU to finish or deleting it and losing crunch time and not getting any points which are awarded only for finished and sent in WUs.

Any questions, please ask.

But if you use the -local switch, does folding@home still add anything to the registry?

Yes it does.

The -local flag/switch makes the client not use registry for other data, I think.

But it still needs that ID in the registry 🙁

I have exported/saved the Key to my thumb drive to import onto no-net computers for sneakernetting.
