Command for changing res in Linux?

I want to hook up my better monitor to my Linux box (shutting down Windows in the process). The current one I use 17 inches but the colors are all messed up so I use it on Linux. My main monitor (use with Win box) is a 15 inch so I can't have high res like I normally do in Linux.

So the question is, what is the command to configure the X interface? Thanks!

what distrobution are you using? any of the newer ones will have Xconfigurator, try just the command 'setup' and run the Xconfigurator, you could modify a text file ... ah but this is easier .. good luck ..

[edit] ah fivepesos you beat me to the post=) , ya i was hinting at that .. but for newbie, xconfigurator would probably be easier . . actaully even if it was me, just for res change, i would use xconfig [/edit]

xconfigurator did the trick, thanks guys! Now, how can I specify the res I'd like to use? Should I edit that XF86Config file or is there some kind of shortcut? I hear something like hitting "Crtl +" would go up and "Crtl -" would go down. That doesn't seem to be the keys, but do you guys know what I'm thinking of?

you can specify the default in xconfigurator, to be able to switch, you need to have picked the ones you want to use in xconfigurator, then in x u can change it using ctrl alt + or ctrl alt - ..
good luck ..
