I don't mind playing older games with "dated" graphics as long as the gameplay is solid. I have a box set somewhere, I think it's THIS ONE. I was going to go dig it out to install after I do my fresh WinXP install.

Actually, now that I think of it, I may have grabbed a second box that contained some more in the series. I got them on sale or something, just never got around to playing them because I was still spending all of my RTS time on StarCraft then.

Which one should I try first?

I'd go with...Tiberian Sun...I love that game!

Don't bother with Renegade...

Please please dont start with tiberian sun!! Im seriously.. thats not a good plan. Its not that its a bad game, its just a bad example of c&c, story was fine, gameplay was pretty poor in comparison to RA2. RA2 had a good story imo and fantastic gameplay to boot.

Play C&C 1 and then RA1 and then decide which storyline you liked best. If you liked the tiberian one go play tiberian sun and then c&c 3 (its out in like 7 days) if you liked the RA story then play RA2.

Renegades an FPS set in the tiberian story, takes place around about the same time as C&C 1 i think. Play it when ever you feel like some FPS :p its a decent game.

Chronologically (story wise), you would want to follow this path:

Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Command and Conquer (Tiberian Dawn, try and get the Win '95 edition that uses the RA engine), Tiberian Sun.

The RA portion isn't crucial at all to understanding the events of the Tiberian CnC storyline, nor are any of the expansions for any game (as far as I know).

In terms of when they came out, it would be CnC, RA, Tiberian Sun, RA2 I think.

I agree with Kromis that you can skip renegade, but I didn't think Tiberian Sun was very good...

I have been playing C&C 1 after picking up the "first decade" collection.

I must say I am pretty impressed. All the FMV's hold up pretty well. I do miss the install program... :)

Are you having any problems with yours like some of the customers in the reviews are having? What OS are you running them under?

I am running under XP right now. No issues.
I did apply the patch on the website though. (I played c&c 1 and renegade)
I have not tried any multiplayer though.

Doesn't matter really, IMO. I'd just start with the first one (Tiberium Dawn aka just Command & Conquer).

Since you don't have the First Decade as linked by RedBeard, do yourself a favor and preorder the Kane Edition of C&C3. Comes with Tiberian Dawn and Covert Ops along with other stuff!

I'd say worth it for the $10

this isn't necessarily directed at you but why do people go out and buy games and then never even open them or install them?

i've seen lots of people here mention that they bought this or that game but haven't opened it yet, and the game is like 3 years old...

The original C&C would be the obvious place to start. The story is still the best of the series in my opinion, although C&C3 may just surpass it. RA and RA2 are technically prequels and are definitely worth playing, but they don't have much to do with the C&C story at all apart from a few Kane appearances in the first game.

I never understood that either. I try out games immediately when I get them.

There are games I want to try, but I don't like jumping into a new one while I am still wrapped up in another. I like to thoroughly wring everything there is out of an existing game before starting another.

Sam's Club is notorius for getting items in stock one time, then never again, at least when it comes to game software. I bought it because I doubted I would see it there again, and I was right.
